Project Overview
PaintWerks completed an exterior canopy repair at the Target store in New Albany, Ohio after a delivery truck struck and damaged the ACM panel system. The impact crushed the metal cladding and internal framing. We repaired the structure, fabricated a new aluminum composite (ACM) panel, and refinished the canopy to match the original design. All work was performed overnight to keep the store open and meet Target’s corporate inspection requirements. The finished result blended seamlessly with the existing canopy system.
Damage Assessment
The incident occurred when a delivery truck backed into the front canopy, crushing part of the ACM (aluminum composite material) panel system. The metal bent inward, damaged the framing, and left the panel split open and exposed to weather. Target required a fast repair without closing the entrance, so our team worked overnight while the store remained open.
Structural Repair & Fabrication
We removed the damaged section and rebuilt the framing. Next, we fabricated a new ACM panel with a polyethylene core to match the existing canopy system. After securing the panel, we sealed each joint, shaped the edges, and prepped the metal for finishing.
Finishing & Painting
The horizontal underside of the overhang also sustained damage. We repaired it and sprayed Sherwin-Williams Emerald to match the existing color. The canopy face received a commercial-grade Sherwin-Williams coating, perfectly matching Target’s metallic finish.
Project Timeline & Outcome
The project required two overnight sessions and one daytime fabrication session. Our team met the tight deadline before the scheduled corporate visit. The final result integrated perfectly with the existing façade, leaving no visible evidence of the prior damage.
