Brand on the Wall, Customers in the Door
Retail stores in Columbus, Polaris, Easton, Tuttle Crossing, Dublin, Westerville, New Albany and Grandview Heights paint between leases, between seasonal resets and around customers who notice everything. A storefront refresh is a brand operation and a logistics operation. Brand colors have to match the corporate spec sheet. Finishes have to survive luggage, mop buckets, mall carts and the back stockroom. The crew has to be out before the store opens Monday morning. PaintWerks paints storefronts, mall inline shops, big-box retail, fitting rooms, point-of-sale areas and back-of-house stock rooms without taking your store offline.
PaintWerks is a licensed Ohio general contractor and commercial painting company. Brand color matching from corporate style guides, vinyl swatches or competitive spectro reads. After-hours and overnight scheduling so the rollers come off before the gates come up. Commercial work completed for Core Molding Technologies, Target, Easton Town Center tenants and Primrose Schools. BBB A+ rated, family-owned since 2016, fully insured, COIs in your inbox within 24 hours. PaintWerks runs commercial painting across Columbus, including commercial interior painting, office building painting and warehouse and industrial painting.
Open Saturday. Painted Sunday.
Mall inline shops, strip-center storefronts and big-box retail painted around store hours. We mobilize at close on Saturday, run overnight if the schedule needs it, and Sunday is detail and touch-up. Doors open Monday with new finishes and no dust. Brand colors matched to corporate spec before the brush touches the wall.
Buildouts Before Grand Opening
Tenant buildouts for new retail leases coordinated with the GC, landlord and brand standards team. Demising walls, fitting room framing, signage prep, point-of-sale walls, stock rooms and back-of-house finished to the brand standards package. From shell to ribbon-cutting under one contract.
Painted Around the Sales Floor.
Mall Inline and Strip Center Storefronts
Inline shop and strip center storefronts painted overnight or on slow days. Brand color matching from corporate spec or competitive spectro read. Containment that comes down before the gates roll up, finishes that survive shopping carts and luggage. Plays well with mall management and the GC on a full retail tenant buildout.
Big Box and Anchor Retail
Big-box anchor retail, department stores and category killers painted in phased zones around staff prep, restock and customer hours. High-traffic finishes on customer-facing walls, scuff-resistant on cart corridors and the stockroom side. Commercial interior painting spec'd for the use, not for the bid sheet.
Tenant Buildouts and Lease Turns
New tenant fit-outs from white box to grand opening, and lease turns between tenants on tight closeout calendars. Demising wall paint, fitting room framing and finish, point-of-sale brand walls, signage prep and back-of-house. One contract, one schedule, one walkthrough at the end.
Brand Color Matching for Corporate Spec
We pull brand colors off the corporate style guide, off a vinyl swatch, off a printed shopping bag or off a competitive spectro read. Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore custom matching for accent walls, brand reveals, fitting room interiors and signage backgrounds. Brand standards followed to the spec sheet, not paraphrased.
Stock Rooms, Fitting Rooms and Back-of-House
Back-of-house, stock rooms, fitting room interiors, employee break areas and loading dock walls. Durable eggshell and semi-gloss finishes that survive cart traffic, freight pallets, drink spills and the way real retail operates. Drywall and framing repairs handled in-house when the wall takes a hit.
Built for Retail Hours.
Overnight, Sunday and Holiday Scheduling
Crews mobilize at close, work through the night, detail Sunday and clear out before opening Monday. Holiday Mondays and seasonal resets are when the heavy lifts happen. Premium time priced into the bid up front. No surprise line items.
Brand Color Match to Corporate Spec
Corporate brand standards followed to the spec sheet. Matching from a style guide PDF, a vinyl swatch, a printed shopping bag or a competitive spectro read. Sherwin-Williams custom match and Benjamin Moore Aura on accent walls and brand reveals.
High-Traffic and Scuff-Resistant Finishes
Scuff-resistant eggshell and pearl on customer-facing walls. Semi-gloss and satin on back-of-house and stock room corridors. Finishes spec'd to survive luggage carts, mop buckets, pallet jacks and the way real retail operates. Cleanable, durable, on-brand.
Fitting Rooms, POS Walls and Signage Prep
Fitting room interiors painted to brand standards, with low-VOC products for occupied buildings. Point-of-sale walls finished to camera-ready for branded photo backdrops. Signage prep and rough-in coordinated with the sign installer so the install lands clean.
ADA Compliance and Tenant Improvement
ADA-compliant color contrast on door frames, stair nosings and accessibility signage. Tenant improvement painting coordinated with the GC, the landlord and the brand standards team. Permit-ready scopes and inspection-ready finishes.
COIs, Mall Permits and Vendor Onboarding
COIs naming the landlord and mall management as additional insured within 24 hours. Mall permits, loading dock reservations, after-hours access and security coordination handled through your facilities team. Commercial GC paperwork on every multi-trade job.
Our Process
Every retail project follows the same sequence so store managers, district managers and corporate facilities know what to expect from first walkthrough to final punch. No skipped steps. No second contractor showing up to finish what we started.

Walkthrough and Brand Sample
We meet onsite with the store manager, GC or facilities lead, scope every wall, fitting room, stockroom and customer-facing surface. Brand color samples pulled and matched to corporate spec. Written bid with line-item pricing, after-hours premiums broken out, and a delivery date the store can plan around. No deposit required.

Scheduling and COI Setup
Once approved, we lock the calendar around store hours, seasonal resets and lease moves. COIs naming the landlord and mall management as additional insured filed before mobilization. Loading dock and mall access times booked through facilities. Crews badged through building security.

After-Hours Execution
Overnight, Sunday, holiday Monday or seasonal closure. Containment installed at close, work performed under low-odor or zero-VOC product, surfaces cleaned and the sales floor reset before doors open. Store manager gets a status update from the lead before the crew leaves.

Brand Walkthrough and Sign-Off
Final walkthrough with the store manager or district manager under working light, every wall checked for color match, finish consistency, scuffs and missed spots. Punch addressed before the crew leaves the site. Invoice follows the signed walkthrough sheet, never before.

Retail projects often connect to other commercial work we run. Most storefronts and buildouts need a mix of these alongside paint to get a space ready for grand opening or a seasonal reset without a second contractor.

Retail and Storefront Painting FAQs
How much does retail and storefront painting cost in Columbus Ohio?
Retail painting in Columbus runs from about $1.50 to $10.00 per square foot of floor area depending on scope, brand color matching, after-hours scheduling and finish grade. Storefronts and mall inline shops on tight overnight windows cost more than a daytime stockroom refresh. Tenant buildouts priced as a package alongside drywall, framing and flooring. Here is a working range from actual jobs across the Columbus retail corridor.
| Project Type | Avg. Cost Per Floor Sq Ft | Typical Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Storefront Refresh (single tenant) | $5.00 – $8.00 | Walls, trim, doors, scuff repair, prime + 2 finish coats, after-hours phased |
| Mall Tenant Buildout | $6.00 – $9.00 | Demising walls, fixtures coordinated, brand color match, ACT touchup |
| Brand Color Match Accent Walls | $7.00 – $10.00 | Custom color match from style guide, premium finish, lighting-checked |
| Back-of-House / Stock Rooms | $3.50 – $6.00 | Walls + trim, low-VOC for occupied work, scheduled around POS hours |
| Exterior Storefront / Facade | $1.50 – $4.00 | Lift work, primer + 2 coats, weather-window scheduled |
Ranges assume Benjamin Moore Ultra Spec 500 or equivalent at standard sheens. Custom brand color matching, ADA-compliant accent work and heavy after-hours phasing add to the number. We scope every job onsite and put real numbers in writing before any work starts. Schedule a site walkthrough for a detailed bid broken out by zone, coating system, and brand color match.
How do you schedule painting in an active retail store?
We work around customer hours, not against them. Overnight crews handle the heavier scopes after close. Sunday is detail and touch-up so doors open Monday with new finishes and no dust. Holiday Mondays and seasonal resets are prime windows for the larger jobs. Store managers get a written schedule that covers every fitting room, stockroom and customer wall before we mobilize. Mall permits, loading dock times and security access all coordinated through facilities. We work in zones small enough that customers don't notice. Commercial after-hours scheduling guide walks through how this plays out on a real store.
Can you match our corporate brand colors?
Yes. We match corporate brand standards from a style guide PDF, a vinyl swatch, a printed shopping bag or a competitive spectro read. Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore both run custom color matching for brand identity work, and we have done brand reveals on fitting room interiors, POS walls, signage backgrounds and accent reveals. Bring us the brand book and we will sample the wall in the actual store lighting before the rollout.
Can you turn a retail tenant suite between leases on a tight timeline?
Yes. A standard retail tenant turn from walkthrough to grand opening runs 7 to 14 working days depending on scope. That includes demising wall paint, fitting room finish, brand color reveals, stock room refresh and a final walkthrough with the landlord or brand standards team. We staff to the lease move-in date, not ours. If the buildout needs more than paint, like new fitting room framing or signage rough-in, we run it as a single contract rather than handing you off between trades.
Do you handle COIs, mall permits and corporate vendor onboarding?
COIs naming the landlord and mall management as additional insured arrive in your inbox within 24 hours of contract. We carry $5M umbrella coverage, general liability, workers comp and commercial auto. For corporate retail vendor onboarding portals like Avetta, ISN, Browz, RetailerPortal or brand-specific systems, we have W-9, COI, safety program and OSHA documentation ready to upload. Our office handles the paperwork side so your facilities team isn't chasing it. PaintWerks operates as a licensed Ohio commercial general contractor, not a paint-only sub.
What is the difference between a storefront refresh and a tenant buildout?
A storefront refresh is paint, patch and touch-up on the existing layout, usually between seasonal resets or after a lease renewal. We touch customer-facing walls, fitting rooms, POS and high-traffic corridors. A tenant buildout is bigger. New demising walls, fitting room framing changes, brand identity reveals, flooring and final paint. We handle both as a licensed Ohio general contractor with in-house drywall, framing, flooring and paint crews, which means one contract and one schedule instead of three trades pointing at each other. Retail buildout painting timelines covers how brand standards and GC coordination play together.
Why hire a licensed general contractor for retail painting instead of a single-trade painter?
Retail work almost never stays inside a paint scope. A fitting room wall gets opened to add a new data drop. A stockroom shelf takes out a chunk of drywall. Signage rough-in shifts when corporate updates the brand standards mid-buildout. A single-trade painter has to stop and call somebody. We carry the drywall, framing, flooring and ACT crews in-house, so a surprise on Saturday gets handled by Sunday under the same contract. PaintWerks is a licensed Ohio general contractor since 2016 with a project list that includes Target, Easton Town Center, Core Molding Technologies and Primrose Schools.
Do you paint during business hours or do you have to close the store?
We almost never paint during open store hours. Overnight, before-open and after-close are the standard windows. Sunday detail and seasonal closures handle the larger scopes. If the store has a stockroom or back-of-house area that can be sealed off cleanly, we can do that side during business hours with containment, but the sales floor stays paint-free until close. Customer experience is the brand. We protect it.
