LOCATION: Core Molding Technologies, near Hilliard, Ohio
PROJECT TYPE: Phase 1 of a multi-year industrial coating and repair project at a 330,000 sq ft composite manufacturing facility. Completed in 2 weeks, June 2018.
TRADES: Industrial Interior Painting | Exterior Painting | Epoxy Floor Coatings | Drywall Repair | Masonry / Tuckpointing | Custom Branding
Industrial Painting, Epoxy Flooring & Exterior Block Repair
- Sprayed Sherwin-Williams PreCat Epoxy on approximately 80% of the plant’s interior CMU block walls, covering the majority of the production floor, corridors, and support areas.
- Applied epoxy floor coatings to production and high-traffic areas for chemical resistance, durability, and improved visibility of lane markings and safety zones.
- Sprayed overhead steel deck throughout the facility for corrosion protection and a clean, uniform appearance across the plant ceiling.
- Completed drywall patch and repair in office areas and restrooms to restore wall surfaces before coating.
- Painted restrooms, offices, and administrative spaces throughout the facility.
- Fabricated a custom logo template, applied the Core Molding Technologies branding to the main wall using sprayed epoxy, and hand-detailed all edges for a clean, professional finish.
- Tuckpointed deteriorated mortar joints and repaired and replaced damaged exterior CMU block walls to restore structural integrity and weatherproofing.
- Coordinated all work around active production schedules, running crews during day shifts, night shifts, and holiday shutdowns to minimize disruption to plant operations.
Painting a 330,000 SQ FT Active Manufacturing Plant
- This was Phase 1 of an ongoing relationship with Core Molding Technologies. The scope covered the largest portion of the facility’s interior wall surface, establishing the baseline for follow-up phases in subsequent years.
- CMU block in industrial environments requires high-build application to seal the porous surface and achieve full coverage in a single mobilization. Standard paint breaks down fast in manufacturing environments with chemical exposure, forklift traffic, and constant cleaning. PreCat Epoxy was specified for its hardness, chemical resistance, and long-term durability under heavy industrial use.
- Overhead steel deck spraying required containment and masking of mechanical systems, lighting, sprinkler lines, and production equipment below. All overspray protection was installed and removed without interrupting active production lines.
- Exterior block repair addressed cracked, spalled, and deteriorated CMU that had been exposed to Central Ohio freeze-thaw cycles. Damaged units were cut out and replaced, and all mortar joints were tuckpointed to restore the building envelope before any coating was applied.
Zero Production Downtime, Phase 2 Awarded
PaintWerks completed the full Phase 1 scope in two weeks in June 2018 with zero production downtime attributed to our work. Interior walls, floors, overhead deck, offices, restrooms, and the branded feature wall were all delivered to spec. Exterior masonry was restored and sealed. The quality of execution and ability to work around an active manufacturing environment led directly to Core Molding awarding PaintWerks the Phase 2 contract the following year.

Industrial & Warehouse Painting Questions
Can you paint a warehouse or factory while it stays open?
Yes. Most of our industrial painting projects are completed while the facility stays in active production. We run crews during day shifts, night shifts, weekends, and holiday shutdowns depending on what the plant schedule allows. Containment, masking, and overspray protection keep production lines, equipment, and inventory clean. This Core Molding project was completed in two weeks with zero production downtime. Call 614-582-4227 to discuss your facility’s schedule.
What kind of paint do you use on warehouse and factory walls?
For CMU block walls in manufacturing and warehouse environments, we typically specify Sherwin-Williams PreCat Epoxy or similar industrial-grade coatings. Standard latex paint breaks down fast under chemical exposure, forklift traffic, and heavy cleaning. Epoxy coatings cure harder, resist chemicals and solvents, and hold up to the daily abuse an industrial environment throws at them. Product selection depends on the substrate, the chemicals in the environment, and how the space is cleaned. We match the coating to the actual conditions your facility will see. See our commercial interior painting services.
How much does industrial painting cost in Columbus?
Industrial painting costs depend on square footage, wall height, surface condition, coating system, and access requirements. A basic repaint on clean, previously coated walls costs less per square foot than a first-time coating on raw CMU block that needs high-build filler and epoxy. Projects requiring boom lifts, overhead steel deck spraying, or work around active production add to the scope. PaintWerks provides detailed written estimates that break down every line item. No deposit required. We also carry full general liability and workers comp and provide COIs on request. Call 614-582-4227 for a free estimate on your facility.
