Painting Drywall Flooring Tile Remodeling Renovations Basements Kitchens Bathrooms Made Effortless
Most contractors ask for half upfront, sub out the work, and stop returning calls halfway through. We don’t take deposits, we don’t use subs, and the owner’s on every job. Your project stays with one crew from demo to final walkthrough.

Why Hire a General Contractor Instead of Multiple Trades?
Home renovations involve a lot of moving parts. A bathroom remodel alone can require demo, framing, plumbing, electrical, waterproofing, tile, drywall, paint, and fixtures. Each trade has its own timeline and coordination needs. Homeowners who try to manage this themselves usually end up playing project manager, chasing callbacks, and dealing with finger-pointing when something goes wrong.
A general contractor handles all of that. We coordinate the trades, manage the schedule, and take responsibility for the finished product. You deal with one company, one point of contact, and one crew that shows up when they say they will.
We also have established relationships with licensed plumbers, HVAC technicians, and electricians. That means we can often provide total package pricing at a better rate than you’d get hiring each trade individually. And you don’t have to schedule around three different contractors’ availability.
The difference between a general contractor and a handyman or specialty trade comes down to scope. Handymen handle small repairs. Painters handle paint. A licensed general contractor can take on structural work, pull permits, coordinate inspections, and manage projects that involve multiple trades working in sequence. If your project involves more than one room or more than one type of work, a general contractor keeps everything moving without the gaps and delays that come from piecemealing it together yourself.
The Paintwerks Difference
We started PaintWerks in 2017 because we saw how the industry typically works and didn’t like it. Big deposits before any work starts. Crews that show up, start a project then disappear. Subcontractors who don’t communicate with each other. Homeowners left managing their own renovation while still paying contractor rates.
We do things differently.
No deposit required. We don’t ask for money upfront because we’d rather earn your trust first. You pay when the work is done and you’re happy with it.
No subcontractors. Our crews handle every trade in-house. The same team that starts your project finishes it. No handoffs, no finger-pointing, no excuses when something needs fixed.
Owner on every job. This isn’t a franchise operation where you sign with a guy in a suit and clean hands, that made you a bunch of promises and never see them again. The owner is involved in every project. Estimating, planning, performing much of the work and verifying all work is up to standard.
One point of contact. You get a single phone number that actually gets answered. Questions, changes, schedule updates. One person handles it all so you’re never chasing three different people for answers.
We’ve completed over 1000 projects across Central Ohio since 2017. Our reviews reflect how we treat people and the quality of work we deliver. We’re BBB A+ rated, EPA Lead-Safe certified, and fully insured. We don’t cut corners because our reputation depends on every job we do.

Columbus Homes We Know Well
Central Ohio has a mix of housing stock, and we’ve worked on most of it. The majority of our projects are in 1990s to 2010s suburban homes. The two-stories, colonials, and ranch homes you see throughout Powell, Dublin, Westerville, and the surrounding suburbs. These homes often need updated kitchens, finished basements, bathroom refreshes, and exterior repaints as they hit the 15-25 year mark.
We also work on older homes from the 1950s and 1960s. Split-levels, mid-century ranches, and brick colonials in established neighborhoods like Clintonville, Worthington, and Upper Arlington. These projects often involve more surprises behind walls: outdated wiring, plaster instead of drywall, original plumbing that needs updating. Our crews know how to handle the unexpected and adapt without blowing up your budget.
Whether your home is 10 years old or 70, we’ve likely worked on something similar. We understand the common issues, typical layouts, and what it takes to renovate homes built in different eras. That experience means fewer surprises and more accurate estimates.

Your Project, Start to Finish
Renovations can feel overwhelming when you don’t know what’s coming next. We keep things simple by following the same structure on every project, whether it’s a weekend bathroom refresh or a months-long whole-home renovation. You’ll always know what phase we’re in, what’s happening next, and who to call if you have questions.

Estimate & Planning
We start with a phone call or site visit to understand what you're looking to do. For smaller projects, we can often give you a ballpark from photos. For larger renovations, we walk the space with you, discuss options, and put together a detailed written estimate. No pressure, no deposit required to get a quote.

Scheduling & Prep
Once you approve the estimate, we schedule the work based on your timeline and our crew availability. We order materials, coordinate any trade partners needed (plumbing, electrical, HVAC), and confirm start dates. You'll know exactly when we're showing up and what's happening each phase.

Production
Our crew arrives on time and gets to work. We protect floors, furniture, and finished areas. Demo comes first, then rough work (framing, plumbing, electrical), then finishes (drywall, tile, paint, trim). We clean up daily and keep you updated on progress. If anything changes or we find surprises behind walls, we talk to you before proceeding.

Walkthrough & Completion
When the work is done, we walk through together to make sure everything meets your expectations. We handle any punch list items on the spot. Final cleanup, touch-ups, and you're left with a finished space—not a jobsite. Payment is due when you're satisfied with the completed work.

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if you find work outside the original quote?
It happens, especially in older homes. If minor, we often just take care of it. If we find any issues that need additional cost, we stop and talk to you before doing anything. We'll explain what we found, and normally give multiple options, and provide pricing. You decide how to proceed. We don't add charges without discussing with you first. This is common on bathroom remodels and basement finishes in older homes.
Do you offer warranties on your work?
Yes. We stand behind our work with a 5-year limited warranty. If something we installed or finished fails due to workmanship, we come back and make it right. This covers drywall, tile, painting, flooring, and carpentry. Materials are covered under their manufacturer warranties, which vary by product.
What if I want to make changes after the project starts?
Changes happen. Maybe you see the space differently once demo is done, or you find a tile you like better for your kitchen backsplash. We'll talk through how the change affects the timeline and cost, then adjust the scope if you want to move forward. Clear communication keeps everyone on the same page.
How do I know if my project needs a permit?
Generally, structural changes, electrical work, plumbing additions, and HVAC modifications require permits in Columbus and most Central Ohio jurisdictions. Cosmetic updates like painting, flooring, and cabinet replacement typically don't. We'll tell you upfront if your project needs permits, and we handle the application and inspection process.
What areas do you serve?
We're based in Lewis Center and serve homeowners throughout Central Ohio, including Columbus, Powell, Dublin, Westerville, Hilliard, New Albany, Delaware, Worthington, Grandview Heights, Galena, Sunbury, Pickerington, Clintonville, German Village, and surrounding communities.
How do I get an estimate?
Call us at 614-582-4227 or fill out our online form. For smaller projects, we can often give you a ballpark from photos. For larger renovations, we'll schedule a site visit to walk through the space and discuss your goals. Estimates are free with no obligation.
How long do projects typically take?
It depends on scope. A single room repaint takes 1-2 days. Bathroom remodels run 2-4 weeks. Kitchen remodels take 4-8 weeks. Basement finishes run 4-8 weeks depending on size and whether plumbing is involved. We'll give you a realistic timeline before we start.
