Drywall Installation Columbus Ohio

Licensed General Contractor | Family-Owned Since 2016 | Fully Insured

Walls Worth Finishing

Drywall hanging looks simple until it’s done wrong. Boards that aren’t tight to the framing leave gaps the finisher has to fill with mud. Butt joints in the wrong spot create visible ridges that show through paint. Overdriven screws tear the paper face and lose holding power. Underdriven screws pop through the surface within months. The hang sets the ceiling for everything that comes after it. If the board isn’t flat, tight, and properly fastened, no amount of tape and mud will fix it.

PaintWerks installs drywall across Columbus and Central Ohio for basements, additions, remodels, and full builds. Licensed general contractor. Professional crews that hang board every single day. We check the framing before the first sheet goes up, select the right board for every application, and hang with the finish in mind. One contractor from framing to paint. No deposit required. BBB A+ rated since 2016.

Starts at the Studs

Most drywall crews show up and start hanging. We check the framing first. Bowed studs, missing backing, bad spacing. As a licensed general contractor, we fix framing problems before they get buried behind board.

Sequence in Mind

Electrical, plumbing, insulation, inspections, nailers, and blocking all have to be done before the first board goes up. We know the build sequence and catch problems before they get buried behind drywall.

Drywall Installation by Project

Basement Finishing

Framing, insulation, moisture-resistant board, and 5/8" ceiling board. We handle complete basement buildouts from bare studs to paint-ready walls.

Additions and New Rooms

New board on new framing built square and plumb, tied into existing walls so old and new match once taped, mudded, and finished.

Remodels and Layout Changes

Walls come down, walls go up. Full kitchen renovations, bathroom remodels across Columbus, and open concept conversions. New board where old walls were removed, patched where new meets old.

Garages

Fire-rated 5/8" board on garage-to-house walls per code. We hang new board, replace damaged sections, and install assemblies that pass inspection.

New Construction

Full house hangs from slab to ridge. Ceilings first, then walls. We coordinate with electricians, plumbers, and HVAC before a single board goes up. Professional drywall finishing follows once the hang is complete.

The Details That Matter

Fastener Depth

Overdriven screws tear paper and lose holding power. Underdriven screws pop through paint within months. We set every fastener right so you don't need drywall repair for nail pops after the job.

Joint Placement

Butt joints under direct light are hardest to hide. We plan sheet layout so joints land where they're least visible and easiest for our finishing crew to tape and sand smooth.

Stagger Patterns

Stacking joints vertically creates a weak line that cracks over time. Staggering seams distributes stress and makes the wall stronger.

Board Fit and Cutouts

Gaps around outlets, switches, and windows mean more mud and more chances for cracks. We measure and cut every opening tight so the board fits the frame.

Ceiling Hang

Wrong board thickness sags. Bad fastener spacing lets sheets pull away. We use 5/8" on ceilings, fasten at tighter intervals, and hang ceilings first. Flat ceilings that stay flat under professional wall and ceiling paint.

Our Drywall Installation Process

Every drywall installation follows the same sequence regardless of scope. We check the structure, plan the layout, hang the board, and hand off clean walls ready for finishing. No skipped steps.

Framing Check

We inspect every stud, joist, and header before the first board goes up. Bowed studs get shimmed or replaced. Missing backing gets added for cabinets, fixtures, and TV mounts. Electrical, plumbing, and insulation are confirmed complete and inspected. Problems are easier to fix before they get sealed inside the wall.

Layout and Board Selection

We plan sheet placement to minimize seams and put butt joints where they are least visible and easiest to finish. Board type gets matched to the application. Standard 1/2" on most walls. 5/8" on ceilings and fire-rated assemblies. Moisture-resistant board in bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms.

Hang and Fasten

Ceilings go up first, then walls. Every board gets lifted tight and fastened at the right depth and spacing. Joints are staggered so seams never stack. Cutouts around outlets, switches, and fixtures are measured and cut clean. Corner bead goes on outside corners. The goal is flat, tight walls with no gaps for the finisher to deal with.

Final surface inspection under working light before finish paint application

Handoff to Finishing

Once the hang is complete, the walls are inspected under working light for loose boards, missed fasteners, and gaps that need attention before tape and mud. A clean hang means less compound, less sanding, and a better finished surface. We hand off walls that are ready for the next phase, not walls that need fixing first.

Drywall Installation Questions

How much does it cost to hang drywall in Columbus?

Drywall installation in Columbus typically runs $80 to $120 per board (4x8 sheet), material included, for hang and finish. A single room runs $960 to $1,800. A full basement runs $6,400 to $14,400 depending on board count, board type, and how much framing prep is needed. Ceilings cost more per board than walls because of the labor involved. We price by the project with a detailed written estimate broken out by phase. No deposit required. Yes. As a licensed general contractor serving Columbus and Central Ohio, we handle framing, insulation, and drywall installation under one contract. Most drywall-only companies require framing to be complete before they show up. We build the walls and hang the board on the same schedule. See how we handled the full scope on our 1,400 sq ft multi-trade basement buildout in Worthington.

Yes. Ohio building code requires fire-rated 5/8" Type X drywall on any wall or ceiling separating a garage from living space. This includes the wall between the garage and the house and any ceiling below a room above the garage. Many homes in Columbus were built with the correct board but only fire taped at construction and never properly finished. If you are finishing your garage or converting it to usable space, the fire-rated assemblies need to be correct and inspectable. We verify code compliance on every garage project.

Drywall installation generates dust primarily during the cutting phase. We contain the work area, cover floors and furniture, and clean up at the end of each day. The heavy dust comes during drywall finishing when joints are sanded between coats. We use dust containment barriers and vacuum sanders to minimize airborne dust in occupied homes. Your house will not be spotless during the process, but we leave it clean when the work is done.

Everything. Board count, board type for each area, fasteners, corner bead, and labor to hang. If framing prep is needed, that is broken out separately so you can see what you are paying for. We do not quote by the hour. Every estimate is a flat project price with no surprises. If we find something unexpected once the work starts, we call you before any additional cost is incurred. Call 614-582-4227 or schedule a walkthrough for a detailed written estimate. No deposit required.

Yes. When new board meets existing walls, the transition has to be flat and invisible after finishing. We match board thickness, align the surface plane, and feather the joint so there is no ridge or step between old and new. Texture matching is handled during the drywall finishing phase where we blend texture to match surrounding surfaces. Once the walls are professionally painted by our interior painting crew, you should not be able to tell where the new board starts and the old board ends.

Every project comes with a 2-year workmanship warranty. If a joint cracks, a fastener pops, or a seam shows through paint because of something we did, we come back and fix it. Normal house settling and movement are not covered because those are caused by the structure, not the installation. If settling cracks do appear, our drywall repair crew handles settling cracks and failed joints across Columbus. We answer the phone after the job the same way we answer it before the estimate.
