Commercial Ceramic & Porcelain Tile
Commercial tile needs to handle foot traffic, moisture, and regular cleaning. We install ceramic and porcelain tile for lobbies, restrooms, kitchens, break rooms, and retail floors. Large format, small format, mosaics, and slip-resistant surfaces for wet areas. Proper thinset coverage, level installations, and grout lines that stay clean. We handle subfloor prep, backer board, and waterproofing membranes when the job calls for it.
Our Process
Tile installation starts with the substrate. If the floor isn’t flat and stable, the tile won’t last. Here’s how we approach a commercial tile job.
Substrate Prep
We check the subfloor for level, cracks, and moisture before anything else. Concrete gets tested with a moisture meter and patched or ground flat if needed. Wood subfloors get backer board installed over the framing. Any deflection, voids, or movement in the substrate gets addressed now. If the floor isn't flat and stable, the tile won't last. Cracks telegraph through, grout fails, and tiles pop loose. We don't skip this step because it's the foundation of the whole install.
Layout & Waterproofing
We dry-lay the tile before any thinset goes down. This lets us plan cuts, check the pattern, and make sure the layout looks intentional. Grout lines get centered on focal points and cuts get pushed to the edges where they're less visible. Wet areas like restrooms, kitchens, and anywhere water is present get waterproofing membrane applied to the substrate. Transitions to other flooring materials get planned so everything meets clean and at the right height. Good layout is the difference between a tile job that looks professional and one that looks like an afterthought.
Installation & Grouting
Tile goes down with proper thinset coverage. We back-butter large format tiles and use the right notch trowel for the tile size to ensure full contact with the substrate. Spacers keep grout lines consistent across the floor. Once the tile is set and cured, we grout the joints, clean the haze, and seal where specified. Final walkthrough checks for lippage, hollow spots, and clean grout lines. We don't leave until the floor is right.
