LOCATION: Gahanna, Ohio
PROJECT TYPE: Full exterior repaint on a 1,700 sq ft ranch-style home with stucco, stone, and wood siding. Repeat customer. Completed in 2 days, August 2023.
TRADES: Exterior Painting | Trim & Fascia | Paint Prep & Repairs | Soffit Replacement
Pressure Washing, Stucco Repair, Soffit Replacement & Full Repaint
- Pressure washed the full exterior to remove dirt, mildew, and loose material from stucco, wood siding, and trim surfaces.
- Replaced two sections of damaged soffit to restore proper ventilation and a clean fascia line before painting.
- Patched and filled stucco surfaces to eliminate cracks, chips, and uneven areas for a uniform finish across all stucco sections.
- Caulked all seams, joints, and transitions between siding types to seal the exterior envelope before coating.
- Sprayed and backrolled stucco surfaces with Sherwin-Williams Loxon XP masonry paint in Snowbound for a durable, breathable finish designed for masonry substrates.
- Sprayed and backrolled wood siding with Benjamin Moore Aura Exterior in Snowbound for consistent color and long-term UV and moisture protection.
- Hand painted all fascia and soffit for clean lines and full coverage on detailed trim areas.
Why Mixed Substrates Need Separate Coating Systems
- The home’s mixed exterior (stucco, stone, and wood siding) required product-specific coatings for each substrate. Loxon XP was used on stucco for its alkaline resistance and breathability, while Aura Exterior was applied to wood siding for its superior adhesion and color retention.
- Soffit damage was identified during prep and repaired before painting to prevent moisture intrusion behind the fascia.
- Stucco patching was completed and allowed to cure before coating to ensure proper adhesion and a consistent surface texture across repaired and original areas.
- This was a repeat customer who uses PaintWerks for seasonal exterior maintenance. The full repaint was completed in 2 days.
Uniform Snowbound White Across Three Substrate Types
PaintWerks delivered a clean, consistent exterior finish across all three substrate types in a 2-day turnaround. Damaged soffit was replaced, stucco was patched and sealed, and every surface received the correct coating system for long-term protection. The home went from faded and patchy to a bright, uniform Snowbound white with clean trim lines throughout. Another quality result for a loyal residential painting client in Gahanna, one of Columbus’s most family-friendly suburbs east of the city.

Exterior Painting Questions
Can you paint stucco and wood siding with the same paint?
No, and using the same product on different substrates is one of the most common shortcuts in exterior painting. Stucco is alkaline and porous, so it needs a masonry-specific coating like Sherwin-Williams Loxon XP that resists efflorescence and lets moisture escape. Wood siding needs a flexible, UV-resistant product like Benjamin Moore Aura Exterior that bonds to the grain and expands with temperature changes. Using the wrong product on either surface leads to peeling, cracking, or moisture problems within a year or two.
How long does an exterior paint job take in Gahanna?
Most single-story homes take 2 to 4 days. Two-story homes typically run 3 to 5 days. The biggest variable is prep work. A house with clean siding and solid trim paints fast. A house with peeling paint, rotted fascia, stucco damage, or multiple substrates needs more prep time. This Gahanna project included soffit replacement, stucco patching, and three different coating systems, and we still finished in 2 days. Weather also factors in. We do not apply finish coats if rain is in the forecast within 24 hours.
Do you fix damaged soffits and trim before painting?
Yes. Painting over damaged trim and fascia is a waste of money because the paint will fail where the substrate is compromised. We replace rotted boards, re-secure loose soffits, and repair any damage we find during prep. As a licensed general contractor, we handle carpentry and painting under one roof, so you are not waiting on a second contractor before we can start. Call 614-582-4227 for a free estimate.
